Small Grant Work

Not much to report on today, the semester is getting busier and busier as it winds down and it is hard to find time to do all I need to do. Anyway, I finished up a small internal technology grant today that I really hope I get. It is for a 3D scanner by Next Engine. I have seen this in scanner in action and it is unbelievable. It is amazingly small and portable; it will fit on a desk (8.8" X 3.6"). I would be very interested in taking this scanner to Cyprus and scanning in some of our  artifacts, particularly our collection of LR1 handles. It would be intriguing to see if these 3D scans could be used to create a very different type of pottery database. In addition, this scanner could certainly help with creating more realistic objects for Second Life and for the web.
